LADY VALOR
DATE: Oct 18, 2014
SHOWTIME: 1:00 PM
RUN TIME: 84 Minutes

In Lady Valor: The Kristin Beck Story, former U.S. Navy SEAL Christopher Beck embarks on a new mission as Kristin Beck. The American ideals that she protected have a whole new meaning as she lives her life truthfully as a transgender woman.

Kristin served for over 20 years as a member of the elite Special Forces Navy SEALs on SEAL Team 1 as well as the United States Special Warfare Development Group – what many in the public refer to as SEAL Team 6. She retired in 2011 with the rank of Senior Chief and continued high-level clearance work, but Kristin hid her true identity throughout, knowing she would lose it all if anyone were to know her secret. However, a year and a half after retirement, Kristin came out publicly.

After a lifetime of service, Kristin has learned that her fight for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness did not end on the battlefield.

Q: What happens when you cross a post-modern dancer with Evel Knievel?

The answer is found in Catherine Gund's exuberant documentary portrait of NYC's Extreme Action Company, led by choreographer Elizabeth Streb. EAC cross-breeds art, action, circus and stunts to craft daring contemporary dance works. The company's "PopAction" aesthetic demands Herculean efforts from its hyper-fit and fearless young dancers, who candidly relate the exhilaration, exasperation, matchless highs, and desperate lows of the extreme dance lifestyle.

Streb reflects on her childhood and her role models (like dance doyenne Trisha Brown.) Archival footage blends with intimate coverage of her home life with partner, journalist and author Laura Flanders.

Gund's film highlights Streb's astonishing explorations of art and motion, while contemplating both the physical and social potentials of the body in action. It culminates in an extraordinary dance sequence you can't miss!

FOUR MOONS
DATE: Oct 18, 2014
SHOWTIME: 7:00 PM
RUN TIME: 110 Minutes

Director Sergio Tovar Velarde has combined seemingly disparate threads, weaving them into a deeply empathetic film that will resonate with all audiences, in FOUR MOONS.

Mauricio is still just a boy, but he's begun to experience his first crush. As he slowly discovers his sexuality, he must navigate the fear and consequences that come with his desires. Fito and Leo are childhood friends who meet again as adults and find that there's an instant spark between them. Hugo and Andrés have been a couple for ten years, but in that time they've grown apart, and although there's still love between them, their relationship is about to encounter its hardest test. Joaquín is an aging literary professor questioning whether his existence has meant anything, and experiencing a need to still feel desirable.

FOUR MOONS ultimately shows it is all but impossible to love someone else if we haven't yet learned to love ourselves.

you-and-the-night

YOU AND THE NIGHT
DATE: Oct 18, 2014
SHOWTIME: 9:30 PM
RUN TIME: 92 Minutes
THIS FILM CONTAINS SEXUALLY EXPLICIT MATERIAL

A daring pansexual fantasy, YOU AND THE NIGHT functions as both a surreal and strangely comedic sexual drama.

Ensconced in a futuristic mansion in the French countryside, a mysterious couple and their transvestite maid invite four strange figures over for an orgy. One by one the guests arrive, with each one assigned a stereotypical sexual identity: The Stud, The Slut, The Teen and The Star. The foreplay progresses as a series of spellbinding monologues, each achingly romantic yet laced with campy wit. As the guests reveal themselves psychologically and anatomically, the film begins to resemble an Almodovarian take on THE BREAKFAST CLUB.

With assistance from a lush score by French electro group M83, YOU AND THE NIGHT sublimely flouts every convention of naturalism, and operates on a heightened plane of artifice, conjuring a deadpan hallucination where ironic comedy and sensuous emotion coexist in a single line reading, and where a simple question of how two lovers met can instigate a flashback to medieval times.
