BOYS
DATE: Oct 13, 2014
SHOWTIME: 9:15PM
RUN TIME: 78 minutes

In this sensitively-staged Dutch drama, two teenage boys — Sieger and Marc — struggle with their romantic desires during summer training for a national track relay championship. Fifteen-year old Sieger tries to be a good son. His older brother already makes enough trouble for their widowed father. To escape from home, he spends summertime at the racetrack and ends up joining the relay team where he meets handsome Marc.

Love and sports combine to great effect; the racing sequences provide almost as many thrills as the romantic ones! The coming-of-age story may seem familiar, but that's the film's secret strength. There are no overt plot contrivances or dramatic conflicts; instead, the feelings of uncertainty, wonder, fear and abandon that accompany first love are so palpably rendered, this movie will quickly become a genre favorite. Fans of German coming-of-age film Summer Storm are highly encouraged to attend!
