“Have you ever fallen in love while standing over the body of a guy you accidentally shot…twice?”

JOE + BELLE is a dark comedy about the whirlwind romance between a cynical, apathetic drug dealer, Joe (played by Veronica Kedar), and Belle (Sivan Levy) a recently released mental patient. Belle is about to commit suicide when she meets Joe, and everything changes. After a surprising accident that leaves them with a corpse to deal with, Joe and Belle decide to leave Tel Aviv and run away to Sderot to escape the authorities. In the course of their journey across Israel, they fall in love with each other and their country.

The tagline in the trailer for JOE + BELLE proclaims “if love is not madness, then it is not love”, and what this film is, is pure delightful madness. The sweet and sometimes dysfunctional relationship between the two main characters is sure to strike a nerve with anyone who has ever loved someone they knew they shouldn’t. —Susan Ramirez
